Anthony Harper is pleased to see so many of our experts ranked in the 2021 Chambers and Partners Directory. The Directory is independent and its rankings are based on in-depth analysis, research, and client interviews.

Nearly half of our partners are ranked, this is a strong endorsement of our expertise across a range of practice areas and sectors. Of particular note, is partner Mark Gavin who is ranked in the highest band, Band 1, one of only two IP practitioners in New Zealand to be ranked so highly. Clients noted that he ‘is timely, efficient, very smart, gets to the point, and knows the court really well.’ Two other team members, partner Nick Summerfield and special counsel Lynne Van are ranked in the Directory for the first time.

Nick is an expert financial services lawyer and received high praise from one client who stated “he is one of those rare lawyers who is both easy to understand and practical.”  Lynne is ranked as an up and coming lawyer and maintains a broad practice covering contentious insolvency, property, and securities enforcement issues feature particularly prominently.

We are delighted to be ranked across seven practice areas – Banking and Finance, Construction, Corporate Advisory, Litigation, Intellectual Property, Property, Insolvency and Restructuring, and our Trust and Asset Planning Team are ranked in Chambers Private Wealth Guide.

We are enormously grateful to our clients who have passed on their comments to the researchers.

“The team are very personable, communicate well, are very experienced and work to a high standard. They have a good range of personnel and the lawyers are very experienced in their respective areas of expertise,” a client notes.

Another client values “the accuracy of the work, the timeliness and the quality of advice” and cites the group’s “pragmatic approach to a problem and their understanding of the commercial reality as well as the legal issues” as another advantage.

They’re a key partner for us and they’ve discharged their duties fantastically, giving us just the service we need. The key things are the timeliness and the concise answers.”

The full list of rankings is as follows Grant Goldsmith (Banking and Finance), Nigel Oliver (Banking and Finance), Ed Dunphy (Construction and Property), Tim Barclay (Property), David Gould (Corporate Advisory), Peter Woods (Litigation), Grant Nicholson (Health and Safety), Lynne Van (Litigation), Mark Gavin (IP), Crispin Vinnell (Insolvency and Corporate Recovery), and Nick Summerfield (Financial Services).
